RADIATOR HOSES

WHAT ARE RADIATOR HOSES?

Radiator hoses are a rubber line that carry the coolant (antifreeze) to and from the radiator for the purposes of cooling the engine

How will I know when it's time for replacement?

Place your mouse over the picture to see a typical coolant hose kit if you were to be replacing all of the hoses on your vehicle

  • In most cases you will not know that it is timer for replacement of a radiator hose on your own.  This is something that a technician will typically note when doing an inspection.

  • If a radiator hose is to crack or break and leak it will cause the vehicle to over heat due to lack of coolant.  If you notice that the temperature gauge is running higher than it normally does bring your vehicle in to have it inspected before any other damage can take place

  • Your radiator hoses should be inspected at each service interval when your vehicle is in for an oil change.  This should be done every 3,000 miles / 5,000 km or every 3 months.

DID YOU KNOW.......

Not replacing a failing coolant component such as a radiator hose can result in over heating of the engine and even cause the engine to seize requiring replacement.  A worn or malfunctioning coolant component is likely to cause other components to be damaged as well.  This is one of the many instances where sub sequential damage may add up to being more than the cost of the original repair.  Have your cooling system inspected every 3 months / 3,000 miles or 5,000 km when your oil is being changed to ensure proper operation as well as avoid any further cost.
