BRAKE LINES

WHAT ARE BRAKE LINES?

Brake lines are the metal lines that run brake fluid from the master cylinder and slave to the wheel cylinders and calipers

How will I know when it's time for replacement?

  • The most common concern with a brake line is metal fatigue.  The metal simply rots through and allows brake fluid to leak out.  So you may find a puddle of clear fluid under your vehicle along the left or right hand side

  • You may notice that the brake pedal becomes soft or spongy during application.  This is a sign that brake fluid is leaking either internally within the master cylinder or externally onto the ground.

  • Your tires should be rotated every 6 months / 6,000 miles or 10,000 km and a brake inspection should be performed at the same time since the tires are off of the vehicle anyway.  During this inspection the technician will look for lines and hoses that may need attention as well as brake wear.

DID YOU KNOW.......

Not having your brakes inspected every 6,000 miles or 10,000 km could be the cause of an accident due to a line or hose breaking or rotting out.  This is one of the many instances where sub sequential damage may add up to being more than the cost of the original repair.  Have your brakes inspected every 6 months / 6,000 miles or 10,000 km when your tires are being rotated to ensure your safety as well as avoid any further cost.
